Multi-Zone Audio Control for Hospitality
Audio System Integration project for a hospitality environment, developed on Crestron CP4 with CH5/WebXPanel interfaces, SIMPL logic, custom SIMPL+ modules, an AudioEngine developed in SIMPL# / C#, and integration with Bose EX/VT processors.
Centralised architecture for 22 audio zones, with individual and group control, scheduling, global commands, synchronised feedback across multiple panels, technical diagnostics, and a software structure organised for handover, recompilation and transferability.

System Developed
The project was developed as a complete system, separating the user interface, control logic, state management, feedback, diagnostics and handover procedures rather than concentrating functionality within the UI alone.
22 Audio Zones
Volume, mute and source control for 22 audio zones, with individual, group, area and global management.
Customisable Groups
Creation of zone groups managed as operational entities, avoiding duplication of commands and logic across individual areas.
Timers & Scheduling
Scheduling of automated actions for zones, groups, areas or the entire system, with timers managed by backend logic independently of the user interface.
Multi-Panel Operation
Synchronisation of commands, states and feedback across multiple WebXPanel/IP-ID interfaces, maintaining consistent information across all operational interfaces.
Operational Control Through the Interface
The CH5/WebXPanel interface was designed to allow staff to operate the system immediately while keeping operational functions separate from the complexity of the control logic. Commands, states and feedback are presented consistently, with direct access to zone, group, scheduling and global control functions.
Audio Zones
Each zone can be controlled individually, with volume adjustment, mute and audio-source selection, while maintaining feedback consistent with the actual system state.
Zone Groups
Users can manage floor groups, area groups or custom groups, controlling multiple zones with a single action without duplicating commands.
Timers & Scheduling
The interface allows schedules to be created and managed for changing volume, source or mute settings on individual zones, groups, areas or the entire system.
Global Control
The system provides global commands across the entire installation, useful for common operating scenarios and rapid changes applied simultaneously to multiple areas.
Solution Architecture
The architecture was developed by clearly separating the user interface, command management, application logic, AudioEngine and audio processors. This structure keeps critical functions outside the UI and centralises state management, groups, timers, feedback and command coordination within the system’s central logic.
The UI sends commands but does not independently determine the system state. Feedback from devices is acquired, normalised and redistributed to the interfaces so that each panel displays information consistent with the actual state of the installation.

The separation between the interface, command bus, SIMPL logic, AudioEngine and audio processors keeps the operational experience simple while centralising state management, groups, timers, synchronisation and feedback within the system’s central logic.
Technical Solutions Adopted
The system was developed using a modular and scalable architecture, separating the interface, application logic and physical devices. Critical functions — state management, groups, timers, synchronisation and feedback — are handled by the central logic and custom modules rather than by the user interface alone.
Central AudioEngine
The AudioEngine developed in SIMPL# / C# maintains zone states and coordinates static and dynamic groups, timers, schedules, normalised feedback and command distribution.
Custom SIMPL+ Modules
The SIMPL+ modules manage dedicated functions and multi-XPanel logic, collecting commands from the different interfaces and redistributing consistent, synchronised feedback.
Multi-Panel Command Bus
The command bus centralises commands originating from the various panels, avoids duplication within the UI and maintains consistent states and feedback across all operational interfaces.
Backend Timer Logic
Schedules reside within the processor logic and do not depend on the page currently open in the browser, improving reliability, operational continuity and deterministic system behaviour.
Diagnostics, Feedback & Service
The system clearly distinguishes commands, raw feedback and normalised feedback. Data received directly from the audio processors remains available for commissioning, diagnostics and troubleshooting, while feedback intended for the operational interface is processed and normalised to represent the actual system state consistently.

Deliverable, Rebuildable and Transferable Project
The project was organised to be deliverable, rebuildable and transferable to another CP4 processor, while keeping all elements required for development, verification and future system maintenance available.
The handover package includes the SIMPL project, the SIMPL+ modules actually used, SIMPL# / C# libraries, CH5 source files, the final build, required configurations, operational notes and a documented testing procedure.
The CH5 configuration is not tied to a fixed processor IP address, simplifying project transfer to another CP4 during handover, validation, hardware replacement or future maintenance.
